How To: Use My Photo Stream on iOS Devices

Syncing photos across iOS devices is easy: with Photo Stream. All you need is an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to take pictures, and an iOS device, Mac or PC to view the pictures.

My Photo Stream works by uploading your most recent photos and allows you to view them across your devices. Your new photos appear automatically on the iOS devices, computers, and Apple TV you set up with My Photo Stream, no matter which iOS device or computer you use to take or import new photos.

On iOS Devices

Head to Settings > iCloud > Photos (or Settings > Photos and Camera), and turn on My Photo Stream.

Note: When My Photo Strem is turned on, new photos taken with your iOS device are uploaded to iCloud when a Wi-Fi internet connection is available. The new photos appear automatically in My Photo Stream on your iOS 9 or iOS 8 device when iCloud Photo Library is not enabled. When iCloud Photo Library is turned on, they become part of your photo library and appear in All Photos. They appear in My Photo Stream on your other devices, including your iOS 7 devices, Mac computers where iCloud Photo Library is not turned on, Windows computers, and Apple TV.

How long are images stored?

Images will be stored for 30 days in My Photo Stream. If you would like to permanently store your photos you will need to turn on the iCloud Photo Library in iCloud.

Head to Settings > iCloud > Photos, and turn on iCloud Photo Library.
