Telstra Launches The Samsung Galaxy SII 4G

Telstra has teamed up with Samsung to release Australia’s second 4G compatible smartphone; the Samsung Galaxy SII 4G.

According to the Telstra blog, owners of the new Galaxy SII 4G will enjoy speeds up to five times faster than the original SII. Customers using the SII 4G in 4G coverage areas (capital city CBDs, associated airports and more than 80 regional and metropolitan locations) can access typical download speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 40Mbps and typical upload speeds from 1Mbps to 10Mbps. When outside 4G coverage areas the Samsung GALAXY S II 4G uses HSPA+ Dual Channel technology to serve up Australia’s fastest 3G speeds so customers can enjoy super-fast 3G download speeds ranging from 1.1Mbps-20Mbps in all capital CBDs and much of the associated metropolitan areas and many regional locations. Outside of these areas the device transitions to Telstra’s fastest available 3G speeds.

The Samsung Galaxy SII 4G is differentiated from its predecessor not only by the 4G capability, but also by a larger SuperAMOLED Plus screen (4.5inches) and a faster 1.5GHz dual core processor and a built in NFC chip. The SII 4G also has HD Voice support which enables clearer calls when chatting to other people with HD Voice compatible handsets on the Telstra Mobile Network.

According to Tyler McGee, Vice President of Telecommunications, Samsung Electronics Australia, “Consumers want access to meaningful content quickly and easily whether they are surfing the web, watching a movie or reading a magazine. The combination of Samsung’s intelligent innovation through to its sophisticated hardware and design, in conjunction with Telstra’s super-fast 4G network – makes the Samsung GALAXY S II 4G an ideal smartphone device for  Australian consumers.”
