As reported by the New York Times, Facebook wants to get in on the smartphone market, by creating its own smartphone.
Several Apple software and hardware engineers, who worked on the iPhone, have been recruited by the social networking behemoth, suggesting the company is making another attempt to develop a smartphone. The first attempt by the company to make a smartphone came in 2010, which was reported by TechCrunch, failed as the company realised the difficulties associated with developing a smartphone.
When asked on Friday, Facebook did not deny or confirm that a project to build a smartphone existed, but pointed to a previous statement it gave to AllThingsD last year that said in part,
All that’s left now is to wait and see whether the Facebook Smartphone will be developed and whether it will be a success.
