Leaving iOS? Disable iMessage with Apple’s New Deregister Tool

Switching from iOS to another operating system isn’t a difficult task. That is, until you realise you’re not receiving messages on your new smartphone.

The most common reason for this, is that iMessage is still active, meaning any messages sent to your number from other iPhone users are floating in cyberspace.

For this reason, Apple have recently made switching from iOS to another operating system much easier with the new iMessage Deregister Tool. This tool will allow you to deregister your number from iMessage so you can receive text messages on your Android or Windows device, in no time.

If you want to degregister your number from iMessage, here are two simple ways.

How to Deregister iMessage:

If you have not started using your new smartphone OR if you’ve started using your new smartphone but still have access to an Apple device then do the following:

Step One:

Insert your SIM card into the Apple device

Step Two:

Connect to cellular data by selecting Settings > Cellular Data > Turn Cellular Data to ON

Step Three:

Select Settings > Messages > Turn iMessage to OFF

After deregistering iMessage, I’m still not getting messages from iPhone users?delete conversation

If the sender of the text is trying to message you via an existing conversation then you may not receive text messages. Ask the sender to delete the existing conversation and create a new one.

If I use an iPad will I still be able to use the iMessage Deregister?

This process will only work if your iPad has a mobile number attached (i.e. you have a data plan with your carrier for your iPad).

I received a message from Apple saying they were unable to remove iMessage from my number.

If this occurs then contact Apple Support.
