iPhone 6: The Evolution Continues

With that said, the iPhone evolution continues as Apple unveils two new additions to the iPhone family.

The Flint Centre in Cupertino, California, was packed with 2,400 iFans as CEO Tim Cook introduced the much anticipated iPhone 6 and Apple’s first ever phablet, the iPhone 6 Plus.

According to Cook, “the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the biggest advancements in iPhone history… Only Apple can combine the best hardware, software and services at this unprecedented level and we think customers are going to love it.”

Retina HD Display

Apple have introduced HD to their Retina display and claim it will deliver 185% more pixels than the iPhone 5S.

The iPhone 6 will have a 4.7 inch LED-backlit widescreen Multi-Touch display and 1334-by-750 pixel resolution at 326 ppi. The phablet will have 5.5 inch LED-backlit widescreen Multi-Touch display and 1920-by-1080 pixel resolution at 401 ppi.
iphone-6Apple also has introduced Dual-Domain pixels for wider viewing angles and display zoom to the devices.

Sleeker, Larger and Thinner Design

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is Apple’s largest and thinnest iPhone design.

The iPhone 6 is 138.1mm in length and only 6.9mm thick. The iPhone 6 Plus is phablet size at 158.1mm in length and 7.1mm thick. Both models are constructed from anodised aluminium chassis preventing rust and have been designed without distinctive edges to provide a smooth feel.


Apple Pay

Both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will have a built-in system called Apple Pay that will let users shop in-store and online.

The system works by tapping the iPhone on a NFC terminal and confirming the payment using TouchID. Instead of swiping your credit card, your fingerprint now holds the key to cardless payments.

MasterCard, Visa and American Express are all confirmed launch partners.

iSight Improved

“Making it easier to quickly capture any moment” both the iPhones will have a sensor featuring Focus Pixels for faster autofocus. iPhone 6 Plus users will have the added benefit of optical image stabilisation technology, great for those with shaky hands or low light situations.

Longer Lasting

The iPhone 6 will allow for up to 14 hours of talk time on 3G and up to 10 hours of internet usage on 3G and 4G along with 11 hours on WiFi. With it’s improved battery life, the iPhone 6 Plus will go the extra mile allowing use for up to 24 hours talk time on 3G and 12 hours of internet usage on 3G, 4G and WiFi.

Apple customers will have the option to purchase their iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus with a mammoth 128GB. The devices will also be available in 16GB and 64GB variations, similar to the iPhone 5s but the iPhone 6 will not be available in a 32GB model.

The variations of colours will include space grey, silver or gold.
